White Mountain Sky View Tour -Trailride near LA

Dates: available on request
advanced
duration: 4-8h
costs: $380

Experienced, keen riders discovering the dramatic nature of our forest and high desert .

Best of both, forest and desert!

  • share

This is our longest ride. Riders should be fit and in good shape. The trail offers it’s challenges. It takes us trough some rough and remote backdrops with some few technical difficulties. Our surefooted endurance horses are experts, and comfort our riding guest with their calm attitude,  handling  this beautiful trail.

Not seldom- riders celebrate their accomplishment finishing this world class trail!

A experienced guide will take you out on this ride, but you still ride your own ride. We absolutely cater to your abilities, as this is your ride!

Scenery is breathtaking, the path is most likely only single foot track, with some exceptions to move over to the fire road, if at some sections the trail is not passable.

Take off from the ranch in an old forest, and we end up in a scenic desert. Often we get followed by a lovely breathe of wind. Since we incline and following the next 20 km the spine of the mountain, a layer of clothes can keep you comfortable.

Included in this ride is one night accommodation prior your ride in our living quarter horse trailer. For your dinner arrangements we recommend the Rock Inn in Lake Hughes.

Weight limit: 80 kg or 170 lb please include your clothes! We also require you to tack and untack your horse.

Ride from tall pines to the exotic desert, by wonderful views

Running Horse Ranch
Running Horse Ranch

First Day

Arrival

Running Horse Ranch

Meet your horse in the arena. A guide will demonstrate at first in our arena a detailed riding demonstration. If you have no questions, you can swing yourself up in the saddle and check your horse in the ring. Go forward at a walk and trot, go back, bend him around barrels and work on some rein cues. This first introduction ride at the ring, will help to connect and bond with the horses, so riders feel safer to go on this ride the next day.

Second Day

White Mountain Sky Tour

We head out early during the morning, beginning with a long climb up to the trail head of the epic Pacific Crest Trail. From here we go towards Mexico heading south. This 7 miles shaded section of this constantly gently bending trail guides us through a ancient pine forest, and black oak trees paired by stunning views across the desert. We switching from trot and walk, depending on the footing, trot when we can, but walking if we must- to cover some miles.
Soon we arrive in Upper Shake Campground and stop for a break.
This upcoming following section of the landscape turns in to desert. The PCT now will take us on a roller coaster ride, with wild bends, turns and twist, up and downs. Additional obstacles are ditches to overcome and plants hanging over the trail. However since there are no steep cliffs or ledges to worry about, this fun three mile trail section challenges riders to practice on their balanced seat position. Some riders going for some slow trotting, while others enjoy a relaxing walk. We leave this up to you.
Our last section we says goodby from our breathy high elevation, and we incline gently for four miles from 5000 feet to 3000 feet, until we reach Lake Hughes Road by impeccable vistas.
After reaching the horse trailer we untack the horses, load them up and head back to the ranch.

      Reiterurlaub USA

      First Day

Arrival after 5pm and test ride your horse

      Arrive after 5pm.
Orientation ride in a ring. Meet your assigned horse and team up the day before your next day riding adventure. A guide will provide detailed instructions before you mount, and offers you assistance to adjust your stirrups. Riders will practice walk, trot, backing up, guiding horses around cones and barrels in the ring. Demonstrating a confident and proper rain management is required as riders have to be quick on the trail, to guide their mounts around upcoming obstacles, which are usually branches hanging from bushy nature trails, big rocks or ditches along the path. If you want to ride at a trot, your fast response of guiding your horse around those nature obstacles is absolutely required.
Afterwards we recommend for dinner a biker pup/bar Rock Inn in Lake Hughes.

      Second Day

      Ride to Bear Camp

If you wish to saddle up your horse, you welcome to do so!
Our ride begins with a slow warm up trot, to prepare our horses muscles for a long and partially steep climb. Arrived on the ridge, horses get a moment catching up with they're breath. From here we heading to the trail head of the world famous Pacific Crest Trail, climbing another two challenging miles ending up at 5900 feet above sea level! Breathtaking, scenic views following us all around.
Next coming four miles, balanced, confident, athletic, horse riders can be challenged if they wish, while zipping at a trot on this very winding, bending wilderness path. In addition riders will have to look out for upcoming branches. Bending over the horse neck, side wards, or leaning back of your mount is required, to avoid sometimes some oncoming bushy branches. Most of our guest riders will break here a sweat!
For riders which prefer to take it easy, we just enjoy this beautiful trail at a walk, mixed up with some short trotting sessions here and there.
A short break will be taken in the meadows at Bear Camp!
Afterwards we head back across the most likely windy ridge trail. We drop down to Sawmill Mountains, while soaking in hundreds of miles desert views ahead of us! The second much steeper incline leads us back to the ranch.

        Trailriding California Los Angeles
Come and connect to the raw outdoors!

Accomplished equestrian riders encounter with us, while on horse back the heart of a primeval California landscape!

        Trailriding Los Angeles – California

All rider’s will be paired up with the properly fitting horse for her or his size. We ride in comfortable English style saddles- but not always following the English style riding rules!  What makes our rides so special ? Our experienced guides address at first to form a bond between horse and rider in our arena. Having this bond out on the trail allows the rider to relax with the horse and enjoy him as a partner, so the rider will find the opportunity to experience hours of peace and solitude riding through a left alone nature on their riding days. Since our equines desire a bond to their riders, a soft and giving hand in the bid from the rider is required.  Additionally our endurance horses are equipped with a good condition, they are experts in rough and uneven grounds to ensure a ride adventure of a lifetime.

Horseback Riding Los Angeles Rides at Running Horse Ranch portraying not a typical nose to tail dude ranch family ride!

We enforce a holistic lifestyle, horses need to rest between the riding periods, so they recover in a large pasture with their mates, where they play, run, rest and enjoy free feed at their own terms, to stay healthy and happy.

We enforce a weight limit: 85 kg or 190lb please include your clothes!

Ride on Running Horse Ranch, Los Angeles, California

Beginner riders meet the horses in a safe fenced in riding arena.  Before our beginner riders mount, we encourage them to connect, while  touching and lead line the horse.   This ensures they actually meet their horse and allows our novice riders to feel safer while out on the ride.

The ride starts in the arena and heads out on the trails. You find a possibility to ride a course of nature obstacles! Explore our winding jungle trails, rocky riverbeds, ditches and ravines, climbing mountain trails up and down, and riding hilly switchbacks and view our yucca garden!

Enjoy a stunning scenery all over the ranch-  our vast and rugged trails will also offer you a view of a variety of plants, which are native to the higher elevations in our area through the  Angeles National Forest.
